Complete UL 508A Panel Design and Fabrication Services
Our fabrication facility manufactures custom control panel equipment of the highest quality. Our reputation depends on the value we add to each project. Quality assurance is as important to us as it is to you. In many instances, your project never leaves our hands—from engineering and software development to programming the panel components.
As a UL Listed panel shop, our panels are manufactured per UL 508A Specifications under Turner Integrated Systems U.L. file number E314343. Industrial control system assembly and fabrication is performed by experienced industrial electricians. All panels are fully tested prior to shipment, resulting in significant time savings during startup and commissioning of the system.
Industrial Control Panel Equipment and Design
Industrial control panels are a collection of power and/or control circuits mounted on or inside an enclosure and operating at less than 600 volts.
The National Electric Code (NEC) specifies that control panels should primarily function as junction boxes for connected wiring or systems. There are a number of NEC safety guidelines that outline the proper setup and implementation of an industrial control panel. These guidelines include specific parameters for the following areas:
- Supply conductors
- Environmental Rating
- Overcurrent protection
- Short circuit current rating
Custom Control Panel Design
At Turner Integrated Systems, we begin any design process for a customized control panel with a thorough evaluation of the specifications, requirements, and regulatory standards associated with the desired end application.
After the initial evaluation, our engineers create draft drawings to outline configuration specifics (along with a table of contents for quick reference). These draft drawings include:
- A functional diagram: An accurate, clearly marked diagram will get the engineer or technician familiar with the control system design
- An Input/Output (IO) diagram
- Power distribution schematics: It’s best if the 480/240 Vac, 120 Vac, and 24 Vdc power distribution diagrams each have their own pages, to avoid unnecessary clutter and confusion
- Control cabinet layouts
- Back panel layouts
- A bill of materials
When choosing between wiring, control components, circuit components, and other essential control panel hardware, there are a number of other design factors to take into account. For instance, wire sizes should be selected according to their load current. In turn, circuit protection should be based on wire size. Overcurrent protection devices can be installed ahead of the control panel or be integrated into the panel itself.
Most importantly, our custom control panel design ensures that all customer specifications will be met in accordance with the latest NEC, NFPA, and UL standards.
Control Panel Fabrication
After finalizing the custom design process, it’s time for us to build the control panel. Manufacturing processes can be used for a wide range of control panel applications, including:
- Pneumatic panels
- Process piping panels
- Explosion-proof panels
- Purge panels
- Servo control panels
- Operator consoles
We make sure to strictly adhere to all regulatory standards as they relate to fire and electrical safety. We follow any relevant production guidelines outlined by the NEC and other codes. Electrical standards may include the following:
- UL 508A
- NFPA 70E
- IEC 60204-1
- IEC 61010
Well-trained fabricators neatly form wire bundles that keep high and low voltages separate, and they implement secure connections between wires to prevent operator injury or machine malfunction. They clearly mark wires, legend plates, and push-buttons to ensure that they’re level and straight.
Upon completion of the manufacturing process, experienced technicians perform energized functional testing prior to shipment to the customer site.
